Summer 2026 Newsletter

Greetings! Eliza here, writing to share summer updates from Compo Arts. The garden is thriving, the paintings are traveling, and Compo’s work has been making its way into exhibitions from Greenwich to Providence, Woodstock, and, soon, Italy.

The Mad King at Greenwich Art Society

This spring, Compo’s painting The Mad King was included in the Greenwich Art Society’s 109th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut. It’s always special to exhibit with the Greenwich Art Society, the oldest fine arts organization in Greenwich and one of the oldest in Connecticut.

The exhibition, juried by Caitlin Chaisson of the Museum of Modern Art, recently concluded its run.

This marks the second time Compo’s work has been included in the organization’s annual juried exhibition. His painting Swan Lake was previously selected for the 2022 show. Swan Lake now lives in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s permanent collection.

Thank you to the Greenwich Art Society and Caitlin Chaisson for giving The Mad King a place to hold court.

Ice Agent and His Emotional Support Piglet in Minnesota

Compo’s painting Ice Agent and His Emotional Support Piglet was recently exhibited in the Carnegie Art Center’s 2026 Juried Art Exhibition in Mankato, Minnesota.

This work could hardly have found a more charged setting. In Minnesota, a satirical vision of an ICE agent took on a sharper local resonance, heightening the work’s uneasy collision of absurdity and political menace.

It’s quite satisfying when a painting lands precisely where it is meant to.

They Are Holding Their Own Teardrop at LIC-A

Compo’s painting They Are Holding Their Own Teardrop is included in Overlap, an exhibition presented by Long Island City Artists and curated by Manuel Hernandez.

The exhibition brought together works exploring the ways space, memory, and identity can clash, converge, and somehow remain in harmony.

Long Island City Artists is an especially vital space within New York’s emerging creative scene, giving artists room not only to exhibit but to experiment and connect. It’s wonderful to have Compo’s work included in a show shaped by that spirit.

Self Portrait of Me as a Baby in America, Unfinished?!

This summer, Compo’s painting Self Portrait of Me as a Baby is included in America, Unfinished?! at WaterFire Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

We recently drove the painting up to Providence for installation, where assembling a twelve-foot-wide self-portrait became its own small exercise in national infrastructure.

The WaterFire Arts Center gives the exhibition exactly what it requires: a vast, light-filled environment with enough room for the works to breathe, confront one another, and be experienced at full scale.

America, Unfinished?! will remain on view throughout the summer at WaterFire Arts Center.

Under the Scaffolding on 37th Street at WAAM

A painting devoted to Midtown’s least romantic architectural structure has now made its way to the fabled Woodstock. New York truly contains multitudes.

Compo’s painting Under the Scaffolding on 37th Street is exhibiting in Far and Wide: Cityscapes Unseen at the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum.

Exhibiting at the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum is certainly exciting, a historically significant arts organization that has long brought together generations of remarkable artists.

Taking The Fork Travels to Italy

This August, Compo’s painting Taking The Fork will be exhibited in the ninth edition of the Chianciano Biennale in Chianciano Terme, just outside of Florence.

First exhibited earlier this year at the Edward Hopper House Museum, Taking The Fork will now continue its travels overseas. This will be the third time Compo’s work has been featured in the Chianciano Biennale.

Crossing The Bridge When You Come To It (left) was exhibited in 2022, followed by Good Dog (right) in 2024, which received a Special Mention for Abstract Art at the Chianciano Biennale. Both works now reside in the permanent collection of the Museo d’Arte di Chianciano Terme.

It is always significant to bring Compo’s work back to Chianciano. The Biennale has an intimacy that distinguishes it from other international exhibitions, allowing the work, the artists, and the particular character of Chianciano Terme to remain closely connected.

That’s all for now. As always, more to come. Follow along on Instagram @compoarts for ongoing updates.
